US Autism and Asperger Association, Inc. (USAAA) kicks off its third annual International Autism and Asperger Conference in Austin, Texas, at the Hilton Austin Airport Hotel. Introduction to Verbal Behavior - Teaching Communication Skills to Children with Autism and other Developmental Disabilities by Dr. Vincent J. Carbone, Ed.D, BCBA. Morgan Autism Center, Kaiser Permanente and Santa Clara University will host an Autism Conference in San Jose, California. The Friday conference will be at Kaiser Permanente San Jose and will focus on medical interventions for physicians and healthcare professionals. Michelle Garcia Winner and Carol Gray will present two workshops on Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) in Seattle, Washington. “Social Discovery and Discovering Social Strategies” will explore perceptions in those born intuitively to social thinking and those who base their interactions more on logic and deduction. “Thinking about Teaching and Teaching Thinking” will direct educators to think more about the lessons they teach to those with ASD, the way they teach them and the environments in which they teach. Michelle Garcia Winner received a Congressional award for her development of the social thinking curricula. She is the author of eight books on the topic.
