Hello from Dustin's Words

Postby marytoves » Tue Apr 07, 2015 6:54 pm

I just wanted to send a friendly hello, and tell you guys about something my team and I are building to help families who may not be able to afford a high cost AAC device, or who may want to supplement their AAC device with something more tactile and easy to use.

Dustin's Words is a device that lets people with non-verbal autism communicate with their caregivers at the push of a button. It was inspired by Dustin Reamer, who is the brother of our founder, Matt Reamer.

Check out Matt & Dustin's story on our blog: http://dustinswords.tumblr.com/post/115300201016/the-beginning

Dustin can't speak. But we feel like we can help him, and other people like him be heard.

A big part of making our device better so that it can help the most people is talking to families of people who are non-verbal to make sure we're building the best possible product.

Is anyone here from the Los Angeles / Southern California area that we can talk to to make our device better?

We want to connect with any families of people who are non-verbal or people working with families who are non-verbal.

We would love to speak to anyone, of course and can do so using Google Hangouts or Skype ... but we would love to user test with people in the area.

Thanks guys!

Mary

Firstly, I'd like to thank for doing what you are doing. It's a wonderful thing and I wish you all the success in your endeavor.
Also, I know a family or two who has non-verbals as their members. I will definitely tell them about your project and hopefully they'll contact you.
